The Huntress Podcast discuss the second saga of this abrupt Batman appearance. We have a triangle going in "Rage Under Pressure". Batman, Huntress, and James, each have suffered the brutal loss of a parent. These three unlikely characters come together in the penultimate story...sort of, of volume 1 of the Huntress.

Lots of great points about this issue. My own thoughts are that James actually has killed several people, whereas Batman's previous proteges had done questionable things, but never to that degree. Still, it is important to ask, did it matter that James was black? Would it have changed if he was white? Would the writer have approached the story differently? These cannot be ignored in today's world.ReplyDelete
I could dive into what was happening in Batman's own titles at the time, but that's my instinct to no-prize the problems in stories. Granted, it's WAY FUN to discuss, but anything relevant to Batman and Huntress should have been in this issue, and not a justified shortcut. My thinking is there was a degree of "since everybody reads Batman, you'll know that yadda-yadda-yadda." That's a bit of lazy story-telling.
Aw, just one issue left? Sad Tim is sad!
